Hello! I’m Amy, a Colorado lover, yogi, lucky wife, proud mama, aspiring green thumb and a dreamer. I am passionate about relationships, whole foods, and holistic health.
I incorporate balance and health and overall wellness daily as part of my professional practice. In addition to implementing this in practice, I started thinking about ways that I could simplify and do better, not only for myself, but my family, friends and the Earth. I’ve always been focused on sleep, food, movement and relationship, but I recently started thinking about not only what we put in our bodies, but what we put on our bodies, the cleaning products we use, how much time we spend outside, whether we take our vitamins and drink enough water...all the things. It felt a little overwhelming at first, but I decided to commit to being better and sharing my knowledge.
I started with a little help from Google and my phone. I downloaded the Healthy Living App. from the Environmental Working Group. What I discovered was that there was lots of room for improvement.
What does skincare have to do with this?
The beauty and personal care industry is not regulated and many products are loaded with harmful ingredients hidden behind fancy packaging. Did you know The US has not passed a new law regulating ingredients in our cosmetics since 1938 and that 80% of beauty products are not tested for toxicity or safety? That includes what we are using on our children. There are 1300 ingredients banned from beauty products in Europe. In the US, there are 11. You and your family deserve better.
I want my family to use products that are safe, affordable and preform well. I was skeptical at first and reluctant to give up my tried and true Mac concealer, but Beautycounter's prices were comparable to products I was using and their transparency of ingredients gave me brand confidence. The next time I ran out of product, instead of reaching for my typical, I decided to give Beautycounter a try. I am really motivated to lessen my family's exposure to toxins and I'm working to replace our personal care products with safe alternatives.
Beautycounter offers a skin and body care line, a kids’ line, sunscreen and a collection of color cosmetics. We are formulating and developing new products all the time that you can feel good about your whole family using.
Our Mission: To get safer products into the hands of everyone.
Decades of studies indicate that serious health issues (including but not limited to asthma, cancer, and infertility) are on the rise and are due in some part to our ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals—whether it's in the shower, on our commute, while we eat lunch at a local restaurant, or when we clean our kitchens at home.
There are more than 80,000 chemicals on the market today. Many don't have any safety data. This is particularly true of those used in the skin care and beauty industry.
What's worse is that the Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics in the United States) does not have the authority to remove harmful ingredients from the products we put on our bodies and on our kids' bodies every single day, day after day.
